Phoebe - MORE LOCATION TROUBLE (updated (good news))

3rd time lucky? No.

Me and my Mum went to visit the cottage for our location. The little cottage would have been a good location... if we could get inside. We had the correct key to the back door but had trouble because the door seemed to be jammed stuck. Just to check, we went back to the office to check if it was the correct key and if there were any other ways to get in (front door key or pin for key lock) but there wasn't. We went back to the cottage one last time to check and there was no way we could get in. The previous time my mum had been there, another man had opened the door... so the reason could be that he could have blocked off the door. Or the frame could have swelled and jammed it shut. Unfortunately WE CAN'T FILM in this property and have to start over.

Here is some video footage of what happened when we went to the location. (might be bad quality since it was filmed in the dark)

After so much location trouble... my Mum was able to get the locks fixed on this property so we were able to film!

Isaac - Script

There will be two main block scenes in this thriller opening where dialogue takes place. This is when both characters are in the abandoned house and when we first meet the antagonist character sitting in front of the monitor.

(The tape is ripped off Phoebe's mouth, she screams)

Tom - So are you going to tell me where it is, or do we have to continue with this unnecessary procedure? cos

Phoebe - Antagonist

Another character who inspires the head antagonist in our short thriller film is: Dr Claw from the cartoon series - Inspector Gadget (1983 - 1986).
They also made a film - Inspector Gadget (1999).

I like how the face of 'Dr Claw' is never revealed and the only part of him you see is his arm on the side of the chair. We would like to do the same for our character, except it will be dark lighting that covers his identity instead of the chair.

Isaac - Target Audience

I think that our film overall should be certified as a 15.

This is because the worst part of it is a torture scene where nothing is actually seen, only referenced. The reason I know this would make it a 15 is because I checked on the BBFC website and it said that a film could be a 15 when containing "strong violence". I also found a torture scene from the film 'James Bond: Casino Royale' which was rated a 15 and it's content is a lot more explicit then ours will potentially be.
Due to this our target audience will be about 15-25 and mixed gender. This is due to the violence which will attract a predominantly male audience. However, because we have a strong, independent female lead, our film would attract females as well.

Phoebe - Lighting decisions

For the outside shots [when the female character is walking down the street and the outside of the location] we have decided to use daylight. This makes it look more naturalistic and ordinary.

When the two characters are in the house, the lighting gets a lot darker. This makes it more like a Thriller. We will be using LED lights on stands and also one freehand; so we can create more defining shadows on one side of the antagonist's face.

Example:

For the scene when Isaac's character is looking at the monitor, we will be using LED lights. But because we're filming him from behind, all the lights will be placed in front of him. This will create a silhouette and add more mystery to the character.

Phoebe - More Location Trouble.

[5th March]
After having trouble with our first location, we found a new location which we were eager to film in. Tom checked out the location and took some pictures (images on previous post) and you can see there would be a lot of health and safety issues. After speaking to Andrew we have decided to abandon the second location. There would be too many risks for us to film.

Luckily my mum is an estate agent. She says we can have the keys for access to an abandoned house. Images of our conversation will be put on this post about more information on the new location.

[6th March]

Luckily my Mum found us a location which we are able to shoot in. I'm going to visit it with her this evening (6th March) and take video footage of the area and inside the building, as well as photographs. I will post these up on the blog. I will also be looking for lighting possibilities and if the floor is even enough for us to use a dolly whilst shooting.
